YOU WILL HELP SAVE OHIO BASKETBALL HISTORY!
THE PAST
Nearly three years ago a few retired coaches decided to initiate the concept of a museum to preserve the history of basketball in Ohio. With 80 years experience between them, they wanted to honor those players, coaches, legends and contributors who make the game what it is today. After receiving support of the largest coaching association in the country, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association, a committee was formed to develop a plan. Approximately 150 coaches, fans and friends joined the Advisory Board. This Board approved ideas to develop the Ohio Hoop Zone Hall of Fame and Museum. They urged us to move forward with the project, offering advice and support.
THE PRESENT
Where are we today? The Ohio Basketball Museum Foundation, our official name, has hired a talented architect to develop cost estimates and preliminary drawings for the museum. The Foundation has also hired a design engineer to develop graphics, interactive kiosks and marketing strategies. President Don Henderson and Vice President Doc Daugherty have traveled to museums all over the country, researching and gathering ideas from experts in the field.
A constitution and by-laws have been developed. We have also been granted status as a 501 c(3) non-profit corporation with the State of Ohio. A business plan has been established and we have instituted a membership campaign.
THE FUTURE
Now we embark on a major campaign for funds to make the Ohio Hoop Zone Hall of Fame and Museum a reality. The site for the new museum has been narrowed down to Columbus or Cleveland. We are thrilled with the inaugural class to be inducted into the Ohio Hoop Zone Hall of Fame and Museum. These individuals are true heroes for Ohio and represent the game of basketball with true honor.
