JIM PAXSON

Jim was a two time All-OHIO basketball player for Kettering Alter High School playing for Coach Joe Petrocelli. Jim led the University of Dayton in minutes played in every game he played for UD (3139 of 3320). He was MVP in 1976 and 1978. He led the team in scoring free throw percentage, assists and steals. He was Academic All American and All-American Honorable Mention in 1978. In 1985, Jim was inducted into the Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2000 was named to the 10 player UD Arena “All Arena” team honoring the best players to have played in that building during its 30 years. Jim was the first pick for Portland (12th overall) in the draft. He played nine seasons with Portland where he was a two time NBA All-Star and named to the All-NBA second Team in 1984. At Portland he was the first player to score 10,000 points. He finished his playing career with the Boston Celtics from 1976-1990. Jim played in 53 career playoff games, averaging 10.5 points per game. Paxson was selected by the Portland fans as one of the ten members to the Trail Blazers 25th Anniversary season All-Time “Legendary Lineup”. He later became president and General Manager of Basketball Operations for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is now in the front office with the Chicago Bulls.
